About Timor-Leste: Also known as East Timor, is a small country in Southeast Asia, located on the eastern half of the island of Timor. Its capital, Dili, overlooks the Timor Sea. The official languages are Portuguese and Tetum, reflecting its colonial history and local culture. Timor-Leste gained independence from Indonesia in 2002 and is one of the newest countries in the world. Its economy is largely dependent on oil and gas, though there are efforts to develop tourism and agriculture. The country is known for its stunning coastlines and coral reefs.
