About Laos: Lao PDR, officially the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia, known for its mountainous terrain and Buddhist culture. Vientiane, its capital, is a peaceful city on the banks of the Mekong River. Lao is the official language, and Theravada Buddhism is the predominant religion. Agriculture, particularly rice farming, plays a major role in the economy, though the government has focused on developing hydropower and tourism in recent years. Laos is also famous for its UNESCO-listed town of Luang Prabang.
